Sudbury and District Weavers and Spinners Guild
The Sudbury and District Weavers and Spinners Guild is a not for profit organization that began in the fall of 1956. We welcome anyone interested in learning or sharing weaving and spinning skills.
For details of guild meetings and events, or to join the guild, please email our President Denise Newton Mathur: dnewtonmathur@laurentian.ca
Our guild meetings are held from September to May. Our guild room is in Cherry Gardens. Membership fees are $25.
During this meeting, we have a formal discussion of business matters. We also have a show-and-tell session to admire what our members have produced. We have a door prize each meeting which is a small gift handmade by the person who won the door prize at the last meeting.
We have a Christmas pot-luck dinner and another summer pot-luck in June. One of the best times during these dinners is when we each bring a “white elephant” gift for another member. This gift is supposed to be something you don’t want and is of no real value. But the wrapping is done very nicely to entice someone to want your gift! We each draw a number and in turn we can choose one of those wonderfully wrapped gifts. You’ll be lucky to get something you really like! But this game draws the laughter out and everyone goes home happy. We also bring mitts/socks/scarves, etc. to donate to the Children’s Aid Society at Christmas.
If you are visiting the Sudbury area, please do contact one of us to have a get-together to share our weaving interests.
